A web hosting service is an Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations (companies) to make their own website accessible by the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own or lease for use by their clients as well as providing Internet services. Web hosts can also provide data centers with space and connectivity to the Internet for servers that do not own space.

Uploading can refer to the sending of data from a local system to a remote system such as a server or another client with the intent that the remote system should store a copy of the data being transferred. The words first uploading device came into popular usage among computer users with the increased popularity of Bulletin Board Systems. This was widely used when access to dial-up became available in the 1970s. Bloging is an example of uploading and so is twitter.
